About this experience
Dowa Rock Temple
6 km east of Bandarawela, the highlight of Dowa Temple is a 4-metre standing Buddha cut into the sheer rock face. The adjacent cave shrine, carved from solid rock, is covered in traditional Sri Lankan Buddhist murals; legend says King Valagamba took refuge here in the 1st century BC during his 14-year exile from Anuradhapura.
